Drawing Challenge #3. Tomato X Science Pic / 繪圖挑戰＃3. 番茄X SciencePic

I stumble across @helene ‘s #drawingchallenge post yesterday, and would love to give it a try, and of course with a mixture of science. So let’s try fusion it with @mcw ‘s #sciencepic.

Here I deliberately choose tomato as the thing to draw despite the topic for drawing challenge is Fruit for this week.

The debate of whether tomato is a fruit or vegetable has been debating for along time. But determines what is a fruit and what is a vegetable? In botany, or biological standards, a fruit is the plant ovary structure that bears the seeds, it is usually formed after the plant flowering.
番茄是水果還是蔬菜一直被受爭議。但怎樣去決定什麼是水果，什麼是蔬菜？在植物學或生物學標準中，果實是植物卵巢結構，是載有種子的器官，通常在植物開花後形成的。

So a very easy way to determine if a plant parts that you eat is a fruit or vegetable, it is to look to see if they have seeds. Tomato surely have seeds, so they are botanically a fruit. Fruits are usually considered to be eaten raw, and not served in the main meals. On the other hand, vegetables or culinary vegetables are plant parts that were cooked, and eaten during meals. This non-biological way of classification of the edible plant structures, lead to the debate whether tomato is to be considered as a fruit or a vegetable.
所以一個非常簡單的方法來確定你吃的植物是水果還是蔬菜，那就是看看他們是否有種子。番茄肯定有種子吧，所以他們在植物學上是一個水果。水果通常被認為是生吃的，而不是在主餐中吃到的。另一方面，蔬菜或烹飪蔬菜是煮熟的食物和在飯期間能吃到的植物部分。用這種非生物學方式去把可食用的植物結構分類，是導致番茄是水果還是蔬菜辯論的主要原因。

Do not think that this is a silly debate, as the definition of a fruit or a vegetable could end up having different regulations on the food. Apart from their state of consumption, being a fruit also meant they likely contains fertile seeds, which could become an invasive species to the local ecosystem. So next time when you are eating different plants, look for their seeds to see if people have mistermed them as a vegetable.
不要以為這是一個無聊的辯論，因為水果或蔬菜的定義最終可能對食物有不同的規定。除了他們的食法不同，引伸問題也不同，果實本身意味著他們含有種子，這可能使那物種成為當地生態系統的入侵物種。所以下一次當你吃不同的植物時，看看他們有否種子，看看是否有人把他們誤會當成蔬菜。
