Daily sketch - conquering watercolors
Hello Steemians!
I'm at war with watercolors today. Yesterday I got some 270g/m2 cotton paper and decided to give watercolors a chance. It always looks so easy when other artist do it but today I realized that patience is the key. PAtience and some other qualities/talents/skills.
Patience - very important (or blow dryer)... Good brushes (I only have few that are good)... Quality paper - very important (don't use printing paper, get watercolor stuff - it shows)... Lots of practice - yup, just like everything in life... And lastly probably the hardest one for me: No knit picking!
Here is my last attempt:
I've tried to use watercolor pencils for this one but they didn't work. I was trying to salvage it and this was the result. I just refused to give up. It took me 3 drawings to realize which brushes work for me and which are good (I have abuot 20 but they are all old and not in the best shape). I'm gonna get 2-3 more brand new ones once I get some spare money. I'm pretty happy with how it ended looking after it was done. I know can improve my skills and make it better. It's far from perfect but it looks so cute and I feel some warmth watching it. I can't look at it without smiling. I like it a lot. I just have to practice.
Here are my previous attempts:
My second attempt. I goofed few details. I messed up her "cap/scarf/something" because I was rushing it. I made a lot of mistakes. I was nervous and it shows - at least I can see it. But I got over it. I'm learning.
My first attempt. I made some mistakes. I didn't realize what works and what doesn't. Didn't use water before adding the color to sky. It looks rough. But soft blue looks amazing.
My attempt with pencils. It looks so odd on this paper but I personally like it. Must be because of the empty white spaces and paper texture. It takes a lot of time and pencils need to be almost perfectly sharp. I want to try few more different variants of doing it to see what can be done. I've even tried blending with plain paper rolled stick but it didn't work as I hoped it would. I guess more tests and practice is needed :)
Materials used: 270g/m2 cotton watercolor paper, black 0.3 liner, white gelly roll pen, pencil, water colors, various brushes, water and my awesome 60 colored pencil set (just for one of the drawings).
I'll let you know how the war goes on soon :) (I won't give up!)

You're a bigger man than I am ... I fucking loath anything to do with paint. Oil, Aquarel, acrylics, keep them the hell away from me LOL.

I see it as challenge. I'm trying new things and I try to figure out what works for me and what doesn't. I like doing that and I like how it goes so far :)
yeah for sure. That's a great way to get better at it. But seeing as I had an art education, I already met the challenge head-on ... and failed LOL.

I love how you have been improving over time. As a creative person, the quality of your works must improve if you keep working at it...you also have to understand the underlying principles which it seems to me you have done already.

It's something I love doing and I can only do my 100% and no less than that. If I feel that I can't give that 100% I'm taking a little break and do other things. I love learning, improving and it's amazing to me that I've found a way to always have fun while drawing. It just takes me away and I'm spaced out. Nothing exists except that paper, that art and thoughts in my head.

I believe they would and I'm gonna make few of them as gifts for my friends and family.
I also have an idea to offer them to people here on steemit for STEEM or SBD if people show more interest. It's an idea in early stages but it may grow into something more. I'll make a post about it soon.
As for children's books and illustration, I've never done it and I have no clue where to start. I think it's more about marketing and selling myself as an artist. That is something I don't feel very comfortable with as I know pretty much zero things about it and as I'm not really someone who likes big crowds and talking to strangers in person, or forcing them to buy something. :)
research on the internet there are places on the net where you can sell fotos and other images!

Yeah having a 2 year old son who loves using water colors I can definitely see what a difference the paper makes.
My son is no Picasso, but these are really good water color paintings.
