My Sketch: Egyptian Obelisk in Istanbul

You may be surprised to see an ancient Egyptian Obelisk standing in the Old City of Istanbul, right in the Hippodrome. The obelisk was originally erected by Pharaoh Thutmose III in 15th century BC, at the temple of Karnak, Egypt. The obelisk was relocated to Constantinople by the Roman emperor Theodosius I in the 4th century AD. At that time, Egypt was part of the Roman Empire, and the emperor was just relocating his treasure from the far side part of his domain to the capital, while another obelisk was moved to the Circus Maximus in Rome. The obelisk has ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic inscription, commemorating the pharaoh's victory over his enemy.
This was the glory of the Empire.
