My sketch: The Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, Israel. The Wailing Wall was a name given the the western retaining of the ancient Temple Mount. The Temple Mount was built 3000 years ago by the Biblical king Solomon, and extended by King Herod, again mentioned in the Bible. After the Jewish revolt in 135CE, the Jews were dissipated from Jerusalem. Then they could only return here in secret and in small number, and they wept and prayed for the long gone Jewish nation. Until 19th century, Jewish Zionism was on the rise and the name Wailing Wall was coined. It was a small narrow alley at that time. After the Six Day War in 1967, the dwellings around the area received so much damage that the whole area was bulldozed and created the huge public square today. Now it is a place of celebration and prayer, no long with much weeping any more. People choose to forget the painful history.
我的素描：以色列耶路撒冷的哭墙。哭墙其实是古代圣殿山西部护土墙。圣殿山是三千年前由圣经中的所罗门王建造的，一千年后圣经又再次提到希律王的扩建。在135年犹太人的起义失败之后，犹太人被逐出耶路撒冷。他们只能以秘密和少数地回到这里，他们为已经犹太民族哭泣和祈祷。直到19世纪，犹太复国主义兴起，此处命名为“哭墙”。当时那是一条狭窄的小巷子。在1967年的六日战争之后，周边地区的住房受到了破坏，整个地区被推平，造成了今天广大的广场。现在，这是一个庆祝和祈祷的地方，再也没见多少哭泣。人们选择忘记痛苦的历史。
