Big project in progress
I wanted to show something I'm working on and completely driven by. It's a digital painting and did show something before in a Dlive video ( https://steemit.com/dlive/@sanderjansenart/1532ad00-4964-11e8-aa5b-83da28bb4ae3 ).
Some years ago I was at a pub where I could hang some prints of mine. When I visited they said I could also make a big print for a lightbox. Not sure how to explain it in English but it's box where you put a poster with light shining trough it. The size is really big and didn't have something back then to use for a poster/print. The size of the poster is 168,2 cm by 118,9 cm.
I asked more than 6 months ago if I still could send something and they said yes. After that I was thinking for months what to start and if I was ready again to start such big and energy draining project. I started something else for an exhibition but had to stop because it was too much and to much stress.
I had an idea in mind for the lightbox poster but didn't feel right enough to really start it and kept postponing it. Eventually I was doodling on my Wacom and which looked a bit like a tree with all the faces etc. Couple weeks later I picked it up (started so many other doodles in between) and thought why not use this and I had some vague idea and started a really large document with the same size as the poster and started drawing the tree again.
Now I am in some sort of hyperfocus and working on it when I can. It feels really good but I know how it always end in the last 10% when it's not ready but looks like ready. Then I keep working on it and fixing stuff and adding the details while after a day you nearly see a difference. Also the big gap after such hyperfocus is something I don't like.
Anyway I thought about writing a blog because maybe I'm working on it for months and I want to show what I'm doing and to just write one blog after six months felt wrong and want to take my followers with me in this journey. Which also keeps me motivated trough this project.
I don't get paid for this project and do it because it would be awesome to have my work on display over there (lots of bands playing there). So it's a challenge but also got exposure. Also because I really liked the people working there. I really hope they will like it.
When I draw things start to appear and exist while not intended. I don't know how the final result will be only some vague abstract idea. :) But I want to add so many details and faces so you can look at it for a long time.
Here I'm redrawing the doodle on a bigger canvas.
Close up where some kind of bunny plants are starting to show up.
close up of the tree where characters melt into each other.
Hope you like reading about probably my biggest challenge. The idea of shading and coloring everything going to be a hell of work but yeah somehow I have to do this lol....
(At the main image I didn't crop the white space off the top so you can see the composition. )
to be continued....
I love it and hope to see more. You only/always make doodles?
Yeah I often just start to draw lines and see things in them. That's kind of my workflow and often they result in rubbish :)
Thanks I'm happy you love it!
Rubbish is the stone you carve off of your masterpieces!
That's a really great compliment and philosophy @hatsekidee! :D

Aww thank you! Didn't really thought about adding them but they just popped up :D Didn't hunt them down so now they're multiplying all over the place :o
It's going to be madness getting this finished. I really hope I can get this done :)
Must be big bucks involved! :D
What do you mean?
Your ink works is really really clean! I’m not sure how you do that, but nice job 👍.

Thank you very much! Well I draw in PS and it kind of jitters my lines so I went on a research to fix the jitters and couldn't find any solution (tried different settings and brushes). Well I could draw in Illustrator but it controls my lines too much and I want to paint it. So eventually I did find a plugin called LazyNezumi tried it and it did really help so I bought it. I only use to make less jitter in my lines but the plugin has a lot of options for shapes and perspectives etc. I didn't try yet. But also a lot of drawing lines with pencil did help of course.
A plugin! I wouldn’t guess it if you didn’t tell me. What an interesting ability, I guess I will look for it because my lines are not smooth and I also prefer drawing instead of making lines with vector.
I know what you mean it annoyed me a lot and couldn't see how others did it. Saw so many videos of people drawing and getting smooth results. Not sure how they did it but the plugin fixed it for me. You can try it for free for a month:

Thanks for saving me the time of googling it XD.
I am waiting in anticipation (no pressure) to see the end result! Preety sure it will be awsome! Don't be surprised if the bar owner asks you to make it into a T-shirt for his customers :-)
Thank you so much! I'm curious too but a long way to go before I can even start adding colors. Haha that would be really awesome, I also hope to get some commissions for album artworks from bands that play there live. :)
You never know how a cow catches a hare! ;-)
Lol :D
Love the shapes of all the lines! Super curious to see the end result - good luck! En groetjes uit Nederland :-)
Thank you very much! Me too :)
Haha groetjes terug uit Nederland :D
