Darkrai! - Pokémon: Step by Step
Darkrai - Dark-type Mythical Pokémon
Apparently, Darkrai is a Dark-type Mythical Pokémon and has this black and purple void-ish powers and that's all I really know about it. It's not that I didn't have a childhood, I just preferred Detective Conan and Doraemon over superpower-ish anime :> This friend that asked me to draw was just inspired by an art he saw online and wanted me to do my version of it.
Aaaand, since there has been a drastic change in my art style, (or so I think it has), I made a step by step for it~
Step by step
So, ever since I've started drawing, I've been coloring it part by part. I color the eyes, add another layer; nose, etc, etc. In my point of view, it's easier to keep it neat that way, but what I didn't think of is how it will come out as a whole. Turns out that to be able to blend the character/subject with its surroundings, you have to see the image as a whole. And sooo, I thought how it would look like before even starting; when I started coloring, I still colored it part by part, but I learned to mix the background with the subject itself (which is pretty cool).
Sketchy
As usual, everything starts with a sketch~
Since I was gonna paint all over it anyways, I decided not to take too much time on it thus the messy sketchy~
My friend specifically asked for Darkrai itself to hover behind him and so I googled how big Darkrai is supposed to be and he is BIG (4'11" or 1.5m according to Google and that's almost as big as I am).
Color!
Fun part!
So, I just basically slapped the colors together and specifically placed the lighting and such from the glowy orb. \o/
As for this one... It sorta just happened >.> I found myself doing it on one layer, I'm sorry there's not much to see uwu
Next up was the furry coat! Furry coats are fancy and cool (artificial ones because fur belongs to animals, it keeps them warm uwu)
Next up is the haand! What's that? The hand? Yup! I've been practicing n_n (still looks a little weird but hey it's progress)
I'm really happy how the hair turned out. It's majestic and white and looks just flowy enough to look like a dude's hair.
Then was the orbs!
I didn't add much detail to the Pokémon behind because I was planning to darken it out and blur it a little. I just needed its figure.
Final!
Donesies! I might have not mention it yet but I just learned the shortcut key for color picker tool (alt) and man it makes my life so much easier haha
That's about it!

I'm amazed, Kothy. Not only of this art but with your entire growth in Steemit. I especially liked this new post because it felt like the art really had a story. Again, I'm amazed by how far you've evolved.
sakto sa theme ng pokemon :P
Thank you! I few months ago, I wouldn't have imagined being a blogger... I'm glad I did! \o/
I was really taken by your portrayal of Pokemon, Darkrai - I too am not a fan of Pokemon, if fact I'm quite ignorrant on that subject. This being said I can still appreciate good art! I could appreciate it more when you broke it down for us, you have quite a unique style! Love the eyes you put in, very captivating! This almost made me want to get back to doing art. Thanks again for sharing!
Thank you!! I'm really glad you liked it! To think that I almost inspired someone to do art again makes me happy :> Almost but heyy it counts as inspiring! I hope you get back to doing art again soon~
Gotta catch 'em all!
I thought I knew about pokemon, but it turns out there are a whole bunch more now, including this Darkrai fella.
I like your process, seeing a sketch being turned into generated art is pretty cool. I do like the purple-y and black colors in this, and the human looks very realistic! I can only assume this pokemon is spot on too, since I've never encountered a Darkrai before.
Steem on!
Thank you! Apparently there are more pokemons now; it's gonna be a little harder to catch up if I decided to watch pokemon now :> I was really happy to know that Darkrai's powers were void thingy with purple glow! Purple and black looks cool together~
I couldn't agree more, purple and black go very well together. Oddly enough I think purple and white go really well together too but they make a whole different mood.
Do you have some experience drawing animated characters like pokemon?
beautiful piccar, @kothy ! love the angle and the framing of this picture, the perspective is done well and this composition draws an effective focus onto the character's face <3 the colours are also very lovely ... the pink glows is mesmerizing * ___ *
congrats on curie, as well \o/!
Thank you, spidey! I recently just saw someone draw in that angle and thought 'that looks really cool!' and so I tried to do it too :> Apparently less symmetrical drawings give off a more interesting look~ Supposedly, the orbs are purple buuut the colors on the screen of the laptop I'm working on shows slightly different colors, I didn't realize what I was using was pink rather than purple. Basically, my work also surprises me after I view in a different screen :))
Also, yay curie! \o/
Awesome work @kothy!
The best yet! :D
Keep on evolving, pokothymon!
Thank you! hehehe
I'm working on a portfolio in hoping to get scholarships from universities and yes! I also think it's my best one yet! Pokothymon, gotta catch 'em all!
Wow nice! Goodluck @kothy! I'm sure you'll get that scholarship! :D
Oh,
This work looks professional.
The drawing itself is beautiful.
But also when I have followed the steps you went through to Finnish it I enjoy it more.
An artist takes pleasure in his painting.
Thank you! Oh, I'm so happy to be told that my work looks professional! Hopefully, with I lot of practice and a little bit of luck, I'll be a professional soon! n_n
Yah.
🎉 Congratulations @kothy! 👏, your amazing Artwork has been selected to be featured in my curation post.
