Spring 春兆 | Monthly Review

This painting presents the image of a winter jasmine in the snow. There is an ancient poem by the famous Chinese poet Bai Juyi describing the figure of this kind of flower, the meaning of which is among the red flowers which are easily seen in the garden, the yellow winter jasmine is really special, as it blossoms in the freezing wind of early spring. The painter uses the unmelted snow on the ground and the bud above as the background to make the blossoming winter jasmine stand out, and perfectly illustrates the hope and omen of the upcoming spring.

“金英翠萼带春寒， 黄色花中有几般？ 凭君语向游人道， 莫作蔓青花眼看。”我想用白居易的这首诗来做点评最恰当不过了。画者用丰富细腻的笔触画出迎春花刚刚绽放的模样，花下是几颗花骨朵和尚未融化的积雪。完美诠释了“春兆”这一主题。
