SpongeBob SquarePants is the most popular animated series in Nickelodeon. Originally the cartoon series premiered in 1999 in the United States and was created by Stephen Hillenburg.

In Indonesia the series is popularized by Lativi (now tvOne), then the show rights produced by Nickelodeon are purchased by Global TV (now GTV).

The cartoon was created by marine biologist and animator Stephen Hillenburg and then released through his company United Plankton Pictures Inc. The series is set in the Pacific Ocean in the city of Bikini Bottom.
