Actress Cha Joo-young, who came into the spotlight with her appearance in Netflix's hit Korean series "Glory," has been cast in cable channel tvN's upcoming TV series set to air sometime next year.
The historical drama tentatively titled "Won Kyung," set in the Chosun Dynasty, depicts the life of an ambitious woman who takes steps to ensure that her husband becomes king. Cha will co-star with actor Lee Hyun-wook, and both are taking roles in a historical drama for the first time.
Expressing a mixture of excitement and determination, Cha said, "I'm feeling the burden, in a positive way, of taking on this heavy role, but I will try hard to achieve the best outcome."
Lee, whose character assumes the throne as King Taejong, the third king of the dynasty, said he never expected to tackle such a role. He added, "I grew more attracted to the series after finding out that there were still things that were not known about the king, whose story has been widely told in many previous dramas."
"Even though it is their first time appearing in a historical drama, Cha and Lee are expected to demonstrate the acting skills they have accumulated from their prior works," said the producer of the series, raising expectations for a wholly new version of the story, differentiated from previous ones dealing with King Taejong.
The series' exact airing date has not yet been decided.
