I guess mine is more of combination of the other four answers, with to earn the primary reason. i didn't know as much about STEEM as I thought I did going in, and that would have changed my reasoning from the start. In fact, I may have been more hesitant to get started than I was, and I basically waited a year and a half after I first learned about STEEM. :)

As much as I want to earn for what I created, I do want to have freedom to create what I want, to have full control over it rather than some unseen entity, and while it's probably a distant fourth, there are an app or two that I do like using heads and shoulders above the rest.
