I would rather battle the besert environment. That kills you slowly. No wait that sounds horrible too, but I think I would stand a better chance.
Not all woods have bears. And if theyre black bears they can usually be scared off with loud noises.

True. Plus mountain lions and coyotes get busy in the deserts sometimes... snakes and bugs... I’ll eat bugs though... anyway, it’s a tough choice.
