Salakot
When I heard about the drawing prompt which is hat, I wanted to create something that speaks about my roots which is in the Philippines. Here is a salakot. That is a wide brimmed hat very common in the Philippines. It is often made out of rattan or reeds woven to form this interesting shape. This is similar to the hats of our brothers from the South East Asia. In the Philippines salakot is very iconic often seen worn by the personification of the Filipino people called "Juan dela Cruz".
In my province we also have an iconic structure or a big shed that was made to look like a giant salakot. This is found outside the gates of the former US military base in Clark Field Pampanga. That giant salakot is in the middle of the park now called Bayanihan Park I believe it was formerly known as Astro Park.
I made this hat using permanent ink marker to ink the drawing then colored it with my son's spare crayons I found around the house when I was decluttering. I do hope you love my entry to the doodle trends drawing contest which is initiated by our friend @steempampanga. Kudos to you.
