Donald Marshall was born on 13 September 1953 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. Donald Marshall was a man who was wrongly condemned of murder and his case raised lot of questions regarding the fairness of the Canadian justice system. Therefore name Donald Marshall is almost synonymous with 'wrongful conviction' and the fight for native justice in Canada.

Marshall sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering cognizance Sandy Seale in 1971. They both are 17 years old. Due to which Marshall spent 11 years in jail before being acquitted by the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal in 1983. Marshall received a lifetime pension of $1.5 million in compensation. His sureness resulted in amendments to the Evidence Act in Canada which was amended so that any confirmation got must be presented to the defence on disclosure. In January 2006, Marshall suffered charges of attempted murder and unalloyed death threats. After that charges were dropped after both men agreed to contribute in a healing circle.
