Weekly Top 20 Domain Name Sales - Week 8
Week of 10/08/18 to 10/14/18
There haven't been a lot of great domains at auction lately. I think investors are holding a lot more and what does become available gets snatched up quick. As a result prices have definitely gone up for domain investors. Personally, I haven't acquired any new domain names in over 1 month now. My last acquisition was September 7th.
I just have not seen anything worth investing in and the few names that I think are just okay have gone for prices that are sometimes double what my max bid would have been. I like to think that domain investing is still an option for anyone to get involved in even if they started today, but it's definitely getting harder and more competitive.
This will inevitably lead to a new trend in my opinion. Whenever prices go up and options are scarce, a new trend seems to emerge. For example, the .io domain extension has seen a lot of adoption as it was a cheap alternative to .com. This last year we've seen the .io space explode and investors are actively bidding on these names now. As the prices go up for .io end users will trend a different way. Keep an eye out for that shift...

About the Names
Today's list breaks down to 12 .com domains, 2 .co.uk domains, 1 .org domain, 1 .net, 1 .ro, 1 .nu, 1 .fr and 1 .io domain. A lot of variety on this week's list. I was surprised to see that the number 1 spot was casino.ro. Obviously the keyword 'casino' is valuable, but that price seems outrageous to me as a westerner for a .ro domain. At the moment there's just a landing page with an email up. We'll have to wait and see if this was an end user purchase or an investor with deep pockets.
I'm not a .net investor, but I do like path.net. I think that's a solid name even with a .net. I also like xvps.com quite a lot. Names that start with or end with an 'x' are easy to brand and then to follow that with 'VPS' is perfect brand / domain for a virtual private server company.
Well, that concludes the Top 20 Domain Name Sales for the last week.
