Week 8 (October 2018)

Welcome to Recent Developments. In this series I post about domain names that sold recently and have since become developed into an actual website. In other words, this is a focus on end user sales and what they are doing with their recent domain purchase!

End user info in the domain name industry can be extremely valuable. You can learn a lot from this type of data, because it shows you what an end user price was for a particular domain name. Hopefully you can apply that knowledge to your own domain investing both on the buy as well as the sale side. If you know what people are willing to pay for a domain it can help you price your domains right to sell.

On top of all that, it's fun to see what's new on the web!

Domains Recently Developed

This week we're looking at 3 domains that were sold last month, September 2018. The domains were all sold in the four figure range with the top sale hitting $5,000 dollars. We had a rock and roll sale that is particularly interesting... Enjoy!

NextMatter.com

The first domain is NextMatter.com. It's a two word .com that sold for $5,000 dollars on September 11th, 2018 at Sedo. The end user that purchased the domain is a company of software engineers and business professionals. The following is a quote from their site explaining what they do,

Next Matter is the digital operating system for your business. It's a real-time platform to run and track your cross-team processes. As easy as chat and as reliable as an ERP system.

I like this domain, it's the kind of domain I would have invested in if the initial price was right. I would have been comfortable spending around $100 to $200 dollars on that name. Nice pickup for the end user and a nice sale for the seller.

TheChateau.com

Next we have TheChateau.com. This domain was sold for $2,024 dollars on September 9th, 2018 at GoDaddy. Currently the domain is redirecting to thechateaulakelaquinta.com which is a resort in La Quinta, California. This is a great domain upgrade from their current domain and I would assume that they'll be rebranding soon to establish themselves as "The Chateau" rather than the long winded, "The Chateau at Lake La Quinta".

I like this domain as an upgrade for this end user. It's a difficult word to spell, but so much shorter than what they were or are still using. I think at 2k this was a steal for the buyer / end user.

Speedwagon.com

Finally, we have our rock and roll domain. Speedwagon.com sold for $3,550 on September 8th, 2018 at DropCatch. The domain is redirecting to reospeedwagon.com which is the official site of the band of the same name. I think this was a good pickup for the band. It's shorter and easier to type but I'm sure people still think of them as the full name.

Speedwagon is apparently the name of the bands label as well, so this is a fitting domain for them to have. I personally wouldn't have bought this domain as an investment because I would have been worried about a potential law suit from the band, but I do think it's a nice domain name. Easy to say, spell and remember. I'm guessing the band wanted this domain for awhile and finally had to have it. They just couldn't fight the feeling anymore.

Anyway, that concludes this edition of Recent Developments.
