Steps to crate train your dog

Everybody loves their pets and even more exciting and challenging is to train them. Like humans, dogs also require different techniques to get rained. Some dogs are lethargic and they are required to lure to the crate and some dogs are active enough to understand what they have to do when a crate is placed before them. However, in most of the cases you have to train them using the techniques as these domestic animals are never trained to use their brain. 

A crate is an effective short term tool for managing and training your dog. Crates are beneficial when you introduce a dog into your new home. There are particular guidelines given on several websites and internet portals from where you can gather some ideas on how to crate train yourdog. If you can train your dog in such a way that he finds the crate comfortable, cozy and safe where the dog can sleep whenever it likes. The crate often serves as a safe method for transportation of your dog. There is a particular duration on how long one should crate their dog to avoid behavioral problems, lack of exercise, training, socialization and companionship. 

Crate- 

There are some guidelines as to how to create a crate that is suitable and comfortable for your dog. This is the essential part of crate training of your dog and the main guideline on how to crate train your dog. 

• If the crate is used for house training purposes, the crate should be sized in such a way that you dog can lie down comfortably, stand up without having to crouch or it can accommodate other playful activities of your dog. 

• Make sure that the crate isn’t too large as your dog can soil one end of the crate and sleep in another end.

• A crate is helpful to make you understand the eliminating timings of your dog and the training should be lined up accordingly. 

• A dog shouldn’t be crated for more than 4 to 5 hours during daytime as per their need to eliminate. 

• Use a bowl and fill it with water outside the crate to provide water needs even if you are not around. 

How to crate train your dog- 


• You can lure them to the crate by providing their favorite food in the crate. This way they will willingly come in the crate without giving you much trouble. 

• You can choose a word or any type of command to make him understand that he needs to get inside the crate.

• After it enters the crate, you can reward him by giving him his favorite food and don’t forget to close the door.

• You can stay with your dog after he enters the crate and leave after spending some time with him.

• He may learn all the rules of your house while crating so when you find that your dog is fully trained then you can give him a new crate or somewhat larger crate. 

• Introduction of the crate to your dog is very necessary. 

• Regularly feed your dog in the crate to make him understand and give him a homely feeling.

• Lengthen the crating periods.

• Crate your dog when you leave or at night.

• Don’t forget to put water bowl or some container to fulfill the water needs of your dog.


Crate cautions- 

There are a few do’s and don’ts while you crate your dog. Through these cautions you can successfully crate your dog without much of the hassle. 

• Never use the crate as punishment otherwise your dog might get scared and it will fright them off from the crate.

• Always be careful that your dog is not left in the crate for too long.

• If your dog is still a puppy then the crate duration should not be more than 3-4 hours a day.

• Don’t crate your dog when you understand that your dog will not destroy the house. If you trust him enough, there is no need to crate him. 

• Make sure that your dog gets enough time to interact and gets the time to exercise.
