howdy back @willymac...hey how does she defend herself? it looks like she could kick the snot out of something or peck their brains out or something, or else just outrun them.

Howdy, JohnBoy. This one you don't want to try to hogtie! She had a foot like a T-Rex! Three toes with the BIG one in the middle with a claw on it that could open a slash in anybody. I would not want to be on the receiving end of that!

Best just to stay friends and when you're close and admiring her big, innocent eyes, remember that she can pick grapes from her food tray as fast as you can mentally count and never miss even one! She can do the same to eyeballs.

She will also eat from your hand with only a gentle bump of her beak.

howdy today @willymac! oh that is so interesting. so you are saying that when she eats from your hand she is very gentle? lol how cool is that? nice to the hand that feeds her!
even though she could pluck out your eyeballs if she wanted to, amazing. I assume you wife likes Emma also?

Yep. she is gentle enough and her beak is not sharp and she is more interested in the food than hurting us. She actually is more trusting of females than of males. It's a girl thing with women!

BTW, the T-Rex foot in Jurassic Park was actually an Emu foot! Emma is most likely a closer genetic relative to the T-Rex than to chickens.

lol! you don't say! that's very interesting sir willymac!
do they live a long time and how do you know how old she is, have you taken her to a vet or anything? lol

the first thing I always do with a rescued animal is to have a vet check everything, including dental, so I can fix what can be fixed, and do my best to minimize any others that cannot be fixed.

No real idea how old Sara was; 10 or so, probably. She was a stray, and had missed a lot of care and that shortened her life. She was in my care for about eight years, though, and I'm thankful for that.

howdy back willymac..so are you saying that you took Emma to the vet?

Texas humor, I take it?

Only by accident, I may have implied that, but NO would be the best answer! No one in their right mind would try to corral that bird unless we all were planning a trip to the doctor!

Dogs, Cowboy, ...dogs! They get vet treatment. So did a couple of "free" goats that cost about $700 in vet bills, but that is what happens when you get to be friends with someone.
