Our continued thanks to Bangkok Krabi animal hospital

Our major goal as an organization it to gather stray animal populations, pick them up, vaccinate them, and sterilize them in order to create the only realistic scenario where the suffering of these animals can be reduced.

The average lifespan of a stray dog in Krabi is estimated to just be a few years because of the fact that there are simply too many of them and sadly, a lot of them cause a nuisance that results in them being poisoned by the locals. Also, when large groups of animals are competing for food this leads to fights, which causes wounds, which causes infection, which causes a slow and painful death.

While in an ideal world we would just be able to provide food and shelter for all of these animals and allow them to replicate like mad, that also would be unsustainable at some point regardless of how much money you throw at it.

This is why sterilization is the only real path forward. It is also where 90% of our funding ends up. While these operations are actually quite inexpensive in Thailand, we are able to get far more of them done thanks to the generosity of our friends at Bangkok Krabi Animal Hospital, who provide these services for free and charge us only for the cost of the medication with no mark up on price.

In man of the village areas around Krabi, people will "kind of" look after the dogs that in exchange will warn them about approaching people and to a certain extent keep the snakes and rats at bay. These people will normally only give the dogs the scraps left over from their own meals and of course, this ends up going to the strongest dogs and dogs just in a general sense are not known for their sharing ways. The smaller dogs usually end up malnourished and you can see how ravenous they go after the food that we turn up to provide.

This one house had nearly a dozen dogs on their property and compared to other places we have been, they were actually in pretty good shape. We have been going through this area and asking if we can assist with sterilization efforts and the population has been very willing to allow and even help us do so.

Normally the dogs are quite willing, with the assistance of the "owner" of course, to be crated and moved to the hospital to be sterilized. We promise to return the animals, which of course we always do.

Through the help of a translator we hear stories of how the animals have babies several times a year and how most of the puppies do not live very long. Therefore, they are more than willing to help us end this cycle of suffering.

Then we transport them to our pals at the animal hospital, where they wait in a queue to have their operation, which only takes a few minutes. Then, after just a day or so of recovery under observation, we return them to the home they came from. We have never lost a dog in this process.

The main point of all of this is not to gloat about our programs but instead to once again say that we would not be capable of doing this on the level that we do if it were not for the help of our friends at Bangkok Krabi Animal Hospital. For a mere 20-25 USD per animal, we can end the cycle of suffering for future generations.

There will never be a lack of dogs available for this area, as even though we have been doing this for several years now, we have only just begun to tackle this mountain of a problem that exists in Krabi.

We believe we have already had an impact, and we will continue to do this for as long as the problem exists in Krabi. With the help of our friends and kind donors of both time and money, our efforts will carry on.

It's cool that there are people who help animals. Thanks. I recently read about an event http://bizbuzz.djournal.com/2012/10/23/dilworth-has-open-house-today/ that will benefit both animals and humans. This is a great way to relax and help the animals at the same time. Pets are dressed up in various Halloween costumes it's very funny. and also at this event, you can learn about the health of animals, their behavior, and how to maintain the health of your pet.
