Pit bull is the common name for a type of dog descended from bulldogs and terriers. Formal breeds often considered to be of the pit bull type include the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The American Bulldog is also sometimes included. Mixed-breed dogs which physically resemble these breeds often get labelled as "pit bulls" by shelters. Many of these breeds were originally developed as fighting dogs from cross breeding bull-baiting dogs and terriers. After the use of dogs in blood sports was banned, such dogs were used as catch dogs in the United States for semi-wild cattle and hogs, to hunt and drive livestock, and as family companions. Despite dog fighting now being illegal in the United States, it still exists as an underground activity, and pit bulls are a common breed of choice.

Pitbulls were created by breeding bulldogs and terriers together to produce a dog that combined the gameness and agility of the terrier with the strength of the bulldog. In the United Kingdom, these dogs were used in blood sports such as bull-baiting and bear-baiting. Pit bulls also constitute the majority of dogs used for illegal dog fighting in America.

Pitbull breeds have become famous for their roles as soldiers, police dogs, search and rescue dogs, actors, television personalities, seeing eye dogs, and celebrity pets. The American Staffordshire Terrier, Pete the Pup from the movie Little Rascals is a historically well known pit bull. Lesser known, but still historically notable pit bulls include Billie Holiday's companion "Mister", Helen Keller's dog "Sir Thomas", Buster Brown's dog "Tige", Horatio Jackson's dog "Bud", President Theodore Roosevelt's Pit Bull terrier "Pete", "Jack Brutus" who served for Company K, the First Connecticut Volunteer Infantry during the civil war, Sergeant Stubby who served for the 102nd Infantry, 26th Division during World War I, and Sir Walter Scott's "Wasp".

Just a suggestion... Beware of him!!! ;)

Actually, Pit Bulls are NOT dangerous, they are just abused/trained to be mean. But if you raise them right and treat them nicely, they can be nice dogs.

@aaliyahholt
No, it's not like that. It's in their blood they will be dangerous in which ever way you bring them up.
Like if you keep a snake as a pet and raise it nicely from beginning, that doesn't mean it will not bite you.

Still if you have any doubt, try to keep a Pitbull as your pet! :p
And do let me know your scariest experience ;)

I see your point, but Rottweilers can be dangerous too if they're trained to be mean. And on my way to school I would run into this man walking his Rot and she was the sweetest thing ever. Yeah some dog breeds are mean by blood, if they're raise right, they can me nice. Just like raising people, if you abuse them, they
will be mean because that's all they know

ohh i see. i have read some where that they are to dangerous..
