Dogs and DIY

One of our DIY activities is grooming our Pomeranian. We rescued our little BB at a time when we had no intention to be dog owners.

Now, several years later, we are glad that she and her buddy Boya - a rescue from the same abusive neighbor- are part of our lives.

What I don’t love is that BB, a Pomeranian, grows hair like there is no tomorrow.

That is a problem.

For one, she gets hot! Very hot! Right now, it is 90 degree outside.

And, she sheds her fur everywhere! That, I don’t like. Not at all!!

Sure, I could take her to the doggy beauty parlor every month. Many take their little darlings even more often than that to get their fur styled, little bows attached and - believe it or not- doggy nail polish applied.

But this Pomeranian is not a little princess. She has tendencies, don't get me wrong. Pomeranians are bred to be companion dogs and she does like to be in in the house and find a soft cushion to lay on.

But for the most part, she follows her huntress buddy Boya all over the yard barking at whatever her min pin sister is trying to hunt. She hangs out with the chickens and, in short, is not the nail polish wearing kind of dog.

Well, maybe she would like it. So, I should say she doesn’t have an owner who is willing to spend 50 bucks a month to get her dog groomed.

In this urban homestead, we cut our and our dogs’ hair at home. DIY all the way! !

Luckily, my son is helping with the grooming task. And using dog clippers makes the process so much easier. I gave her her first haircut with scissors and it took forever!!

Now, mind you, she still doesn't think that grooming is such a great idea. That is why she looks at me with the big question in her eyes.

Why? Oh, why are we doing this again?

But after we are done, when the fur coat is gone and she doesn't feel so hot any more, she is so happy!!

I wished I could post a picture of her smiling face, but she was running all over the place celebrating being cooler. BB never sat still long enough to get a good shot!
