Sticky Rice and Mango go to the vet

in #dogs2 years ago

You may recall that Sticky Rice and Mango were 2 sibling dogs that were dropped off at the Tiger Cave Temple in the night by owners who no longer wanted them. We never saw the drop off and this is unfortunately very common in Thailand. The monks almost immediately took to these two and showed them special care and attention and they earned names in just a few days which is remarkable when you consider that there are some dogs that have been there for years that don't have names yet.

While in relatively good health, we needed to wait a little while before we took them to the vet for sterilization because they were too young. It is absolutely vital to get the procedure done as soon as it is safe and possible though, because dogs don't exactly wait for permission before having puppies.

It probably wasn't necessary to put them in the kennel because they are extremely well behaved for their age and will come to you on command. It is protocol though. Once we were at the vet one of the staff took them for a little walk to meet the other patients.

These two are already very socially adept and will get along with almost any other dog. They have spent their lives in a pack of sorts and since the pack they are in is pretty peaceful due to the fact that there is enough food, they tend to not view other dogs as a threat. This, as a side note, is something that is very important for dogs at a young age. If you don't socialize your pet when they are young, they will probably be afraid of other animals for a long period of time.

Both of the dogs were sterilized today, and just as we expected, they were both very compliant and didn't give anyone any fuss at any point during the process. We are very hopeful that these two will be very strong candidates for adoption because they are cute, friendly, and have great demeanors. As much as the monks like having these two at the temple, everybody knows they would be better off at a forever home, hopefully one where they can go together.
