I did not name this dog but I do love the name. Thais tend to give animals some sort of silly name if it is in English and I think it is adorable. There is another dog in this same temple that is named Yogurt so why not Ice Cream?
Ice Cream is one of the most friendly dogs here at the Tiger Cave Temple and many people have commented about how wonderful she is with all the humans that come to visit.
We got a bit of a scare recently when Ice Cream was missing for nearly 2 weeks. We did a bunch of searching for her including going into the caves themselves at the temple and even asked the monk who lives at the top of the 1300 stairs to keep a lookout for her. I was suspecting that she had been bitten by a snake and then did what dogs often do in that situation: Crawl off somewhere to die in private.
We don't actually have any idea what sort of adventure Ice Cream went on because one day she was just back all of a sudden and I checked her out for wounds and she doesn't have any. She is also sterilized so it couldn't have been the sweet callings of a potential suitor that kept her away for a fortnight.
I'm just happy that she is back and she is safe. We suspect that maybe she followed a human home and they fed her in their yard for a bit but then Ice Cream started to feel like she missed her temple family and made her way back here. I do wish that someone would properly adopt her but it does make me feel happy to know that she missed us and decided to come back.
Ice Cream is just one of the many dozens of dogs that call Tiger Cave Temple home but she is likely the most famous for being the dog that always approaches the hundreds of tourists that come here every single day.
She is a bit famous actually and we are all just happy that she is ok and came back.
