The best investment for dog owners or what?!

in #dog7 years ago (edited)

Really?! Dogs are often loyal companions for many people. They are intelligent, they help to rescue accident victims and playing with your kids. And so there is also a coin with the iconic picture of a dog? Yes there is! The Dogecoin. The first time i noticed the dog money i must grinch but then i asked my self: "Wait a minute that coin has a market cap of $214 million not thousand, million! Why is that?"

Dogecoin shows a adorable and proud dog of the breed of Shiba. Initially it was just a joke of the developers and a parody of Bitcoin. But they don't expected that their is such a huge market for. Published in 2013 the currency is now a funny satellite of the more "serious" cryptocurrencies. If you ask coin holders often you get the answer they are have Dogecoin just for fun or because of the cute dog. The community want him to stay alive. It seems ridiculous but that is human nature.

But there is more than that. Doge is also used for charity purposes and to build a community. Here is an example how may groups have founded charity organisations

What's the difference between Bitcoin and Dogecoin from the technical side?
First the block time is just 1 min compared to 10 min with Bitcoin and you can do faster transactions. Bitcoin has always huge backlogs of unconfirmed transactions but that should change soon. Second it's inflationary. That means each year there is new supply of 5.625 billion coins. Because of the fixed amount the inflation rate is dropping. 2050 it should around 1,9%. If you ever looked at Cryptopia exchange there are tradeable pairs of currencies with Doge beside Litecoin and Bitcoin.

So what? That currency has a real value now and reminds me what a simple and funny idea can have such power in the real world if you just do. But..

What's up with a Catcoin? Yes there is one, unbelievable!

But it seems it has just a small fraction of the popularity compared to Doge. Why is that? Cat videos are the most watched category on Youtube. The icon is not so cute. Maybe Catcoin would be more popular if they used a british shorthair looking more realistic like the symbol? Because i have one named Pascha and he knows how to get his treats with his eyes ;)

But i think that's not the reason why Dogecoin is so successful. What does the Doge community what the Cats don't do? I have no idea at the moment.

Please leave comments below. Do you know more funny stories about or just have any other ideas to the Doge and Cat phenomenon. And please vote. Thank you!

Have a sunny Sunday!
