Akita-inu

 Of all the breeds of Japanese dogs, Akita Inu is the only one that has been honored to be called the Nature Monument of this country. It happened more than seventy years ago, in July 1931. Before that, such dogs were called Odate-inu or Kazun-inu. They were distributed only in the city of Odata and Tohoku district of the northern prefecture of Akita, from which this breed got its name.
There, in the north of Honshu, they appeared in the 17th century and have not changed much since that time. Akita Inu was among the pets, from the Japanese emperors and representatives of the royal nobility, so she was considered a 'royal dog'. Her courage was much appreciated by the famous Japanese samurai. The size and fearlessness of a dog bred to produce a deer and a wild boar made it an excellent hunter. Akita Inu is able to cope even with a black bear Ezo weighing 400 kilograms, living in those places.
Distinctive features of Akita - her nobility and self-esteem, which are visible both in a proud stance, and with a purposeful movement. In appearance, Akita immediately noticeable strength and authority, and her bearing causes involuntary respect. They are dogs with a calm character, very reserved and cautious. They are in many ways superior to other members of their family.
Akita-inu does not react to non-essential stimuli, but responds to a serious call to other dogs with a swift reaction. For all its reasonableness, restraint and obedience, this breed has an ardent temperament. Its representatives are capable of violent assault, and, in this case, they are usually easy to train.
To increase aggressiveness, they were interbred with Tibetan mastiffs and German danes, awarding this breed with additional strength and size. To work as guard dogs, they do not need training because they have an unrivaled sense of sight, perfect eyesight and excellent hearing, are imperturbable and bark only when threatened.
Being the largest of Japanese spitz-like dogs (at the withers it reaches 58-70 cm and weighs 35-50 kg), it is perfectly composed, strong and muscular. Good proportions are characteristic for this breed. A flat, broad and heavy head of an obtuse shape and a strong short muzzle resemble bearish. Akita Inu has a slightly stretched body (if you compare it with the height at the withers) with a broad, deep chest, straight back.
It has a well-defined transition to the muzzle from the forehead, in the center of which there is a depression. Muzzle pointed. Forward-directed small erect ears are along the neck line. Small eyes in the shape of a triangle are dark brown. Nose black with a short back. In dogs of white color, brown is allowed, but black is preferable. The lips of the Akita are also black, and the tongue is pink. Scissor bite.
A highly planted tail is bent by an elegant ring on its back once or twice. A dense paw, resembling a cat's, has closed fingers and allows the dog to swim perfectly. Under a stiff water-repellent coat there is a thick undercoat.
Color is allowed white, red, tiger or til. All of them, except for the white, are shaded by a significant jurajiro (white or whitish color from the sides of the muzzle and cheeks, under the lower jaw and on the neck, and also on the abdomen, the inner part of the front and hind paws and on the tail). It is required that the color be pure and saturated. The fuzziness of color boundaries and the black mask are disqualifying defects in exhibitions.
