RE: Twice Upon a Gender: Women on Doctor Who - Christmas Special Episode Review [SPOILERS]

in #doctorwho7 years ago

Wonderful write-up @techslut. This is especially great:

So the goal here isn't to repress the old behaviors of past, but rather to deal with them by overcoming our shame and awkwardness, coming to a point where we can laugh about it instead of judging one another and our past selves.

I think it's difficult in these times to remember that the folks of the past were a result of their surroundings. Culture is influential. We are evolving to see many things as downright wrong that used to be acceptable even to most women (sadly.) I'm glad that these views are changing so drastically now, but I also don't want to have to look back with disgust and anger at every man who didn't "get it" when practically no one got it.

Much better to be looking forward and celebrating the victories of today, like Jodie Whittaker, whose announcement as the new Doctor caused my 11-year-old daughter to squeal with delight in a pitch never before or since heard on earth. Like Jodie Whittaker, who is a stellar actress and will likely be a fantastic Doctor regardless of gender.
