A bootleg is an illegal edit or remix. The content owner did not give permission. However youtube found the original content within it and pays out the content holder. Making this legal debate a lot more complex.

Well legally i am not allowed to publish this. The content owner can even forbid me from using this in a dj set. However when youtube directly pays the content owner I more or less pay for premission since it is video reveneu i don't get. Which within it self is a intresseting case. How ever this argument and the matters to which it apply may vary from country to country.
