DMarket - The next decentralized marketplace for videogame items

in #dmarket7 years ago

The ICO fever is still upon us, alone this year initial coin offerings has been all over the crypto world. Huge amounts of Ether, bitcoin, Litecoin has been poured into start-up companies with the hope of X return on investment.

By now I think everyone is tired of hearing the buzz word ICO, but a few weeks ago I stumbled on DMarket. And DMarket is at the moment preparing their ICO on Thursday the 17 of August. While many of the latest ICO has been mostly based on future promises and ideas, DMarket caught my attention.

As a long time CS player, I was playing Counter-Strike before Valve implemented skins for the game. At the time I did not care much because it was all cosmetic. But as any weak soul I slowly caved in and started developing my inventory by betting on CSGOLounge(all before the whole IBP skins scandel). At one point I ended up having enough valuable skins to trade for the worst possible knife. I felt awesome showing off my 50 $ ingame pixels to my friend and online strangers.

Since then I have gotten a much bigger inventory with skins worth way to much for what it really is. cosmetics for weapons in a online game. So few weeks ago I thought it was time to cash out. Or atleast selling one of the ugly skins....
So I knew I had a few options, and one of the more secure/safe options is OPSkins, which basically is a web-shop where people can sell and buy CSGO skins. I had never used OPSkins before but when looking into the service I was shocked by the amounts of fee's OPSkins have. If I were to sell an item I would end up giving a 10% cut for selling the item on OPSkins, a 4 % fee for transferring the money to paypal, skrill etc. And whatever fee paypal/skrill have for sending the money to my bank account...

Introducing DMarket. A cheaper way of trading items of pretty much any game!

Granted DMarket is meant to be a trading service and not specifically a platform to trade ingame items to FIAT, but the market is insanely huge. Alone in CS skins is big business. At least I know that, and a lot of other games does not have the platform that steam games have. The Steam market is expensive, but it is an easy and safe way of trading items for gamers. If DMarket is able to emulate the experience and offer competitive pricing this thing will be big money.

So how far is the project?

Well as the road map is stating, right now Skins.cash is already live. This is a fast way of making CSGO, Dota and TF2 ingame items to FIAT and even Bitcoin. This in it self is competitive with e.g. OPSkins but there is some limitations on certain volatile items.

So why invest in the ICO?

  • As a currency, in case of buying/selling in-game items
  • For deducting fees for trading in-game items
  • To distribute profits among digital property copyright holders
  • For premium account acquisition for wholesalers and retailers
  • For BigData-analytics acquisition
  • To postpone service fees, based on smart contracts which are sourced from one DMarket user to another

One of the main reasons I will invest is the platforms potential. Most ICO these days are founded very quickly by people who only is interested in short term returns and therefor sell them shortly after the specific token hits the exchanges. DMarket's ICO won't be a quick in my opinion. But if larger companies implement DMarkets platform in their value offer, DMarket will be a profitable investment.

Another respective is to use the tokens to buy more ingame items. This might not be a traders first choice, but never the less I am still a gamer who enjoys having fancy skins in my favorite games!

Have you heard of DMarket before and/or are you prone to invest?
