Broadcast Settings on @dlive + powertips ;) — [oo8] #tenminteach

for my video number eight on DLive i wanted to try and cover some of the recommended broadcasting settings and tips and tricks and things to look out for, i hope they someone — remember this is an ever evolving space and so video settings can change as the site get’s better and is improved.

the core thing i’m going to say here is that for streaming i use 720p, 2000 kbits at 30 fps, i’m running an old i7 intel iMac to do my streaming, i really need to upgrade to something else, i’m not sure what the MAX settings are for streaming to the DLive system but i do know that it uses a WOWZA backend server (you stream from your machine to it) and then it displays that video feed onto your profile.

if your a gamer prepared to be a little frustrated if your used to sending a stream of 5000 kps and 60 fps, chances are you can’t do that with DLive, remember it’s a young service and needs your steem delegation, support to improve over time — it’s just fantastic however that we have a decentralised platform that pays us for live streaming and pays out in seven days all powered on the lovely steem blockchain! Brilliant!

you’ll probably be using the free to download software OBS from obsproject.com for windows, mac and linux for doing all your switching of sources while you do the live stream, i suggest you keep the amount of sources and scenes to a minimum.

graphics and video, especially when used as overlays can use a lot of memory swapping in and out, i optimise all my videos using .webm format video using miro video converter, if can take a few hundred meg video down to very small sizes and look exactly the same.

if you are really looking to do streaming regular, daily or full time at least then i would suggest having two machines — one for gaming and your titles to run at full resolution at the native speed you are used to and a second machine for streaming, capturing everything from the gaming machine.

it might add an extra level of ‘faffing’ or messing around when it comes to audio and switching things but you should be able to work it out quite easily, i’ll be doing this when i can afford that gaming machine, my iMac will be the streaming machine then.

as far as i know you can only stream for 2hr chunks on DLive, i think this is maybe for ‘saving’ reasons so that it can save a video recording of your live stream easily, i do hope they offer the ability to have your own wowza instance and that you can pay in SBD or STEEM for that PRO upgrade!

one thing i’ve noticed on the current version of DLive as of this blog post is that videos and livestreams might not show up on the main pages of the website, this is just a bug, nothing is lost so do not worry. remember that DLive is a very young service and it’s still being worked on.

if you do have any problem while you are using the service you could always check out their discord channel for help, you can find the link on their profile - lots of people are in there willing to advise, drop me a comment on this post if i can help you.

It looks like streams longer than 2 hours are supported - I managed to stream for three hours yesterday. I'm looking forward to a server closer to Australia so I can push out a higher bitrate with lower latency.

I've got a 100/40 mbps connection, and can only stream with a 1800 bitrate at 1080p

Encoding on the GPU (I've got a 1080ti) I get no dropped frames, and I've got an old-ish CPU (i7 4790k) I'm fairly new to the streaming space, and its complicated, but simple; especially if you have a history of working with video!

Thanks for this video, chucked you a follow on Steemit! :)

yeah it's really simple. some people don't understand thou, so really doing it for them! :) - cheers for the upvote.

Thanks for the video, Very useful to the community!

@teamhumble you are killing it with these videos. keep it up.

Cheers brother! Do my best ;)

Wow you r looking so pretty, And your headphone is so sexy....

good post, great job keep this job @ teamhumble, upvote and resteem

From the post you made, I learned or learned something new that I did not know before. I'm a very good fan of you, I read all your posts. Your posts are very good to me, and so I hope we will be happy to post you for us. The information that you have on this post is very useful for many of us. So I hope your post will be very helpful for us

a webm file may be smaller in size, but that doesn't mean it consumes less CPU to decode it to show in your stream, in fact it is the opposite. A less compressed file, would be easier to decode for real-time purposes. So, webm is not ideal.

webm works perfectly well and is ideal for me. thanks. also that is not reflected in the cpu usage of OBS, but if you want to split hairs go ahead.

You are right... I was thinking about decoding with CPU but now that you say that maybe it is decoded using the GPU and smaller file size could be a bit better for CPU. In the end if it works well it is good ;) thanks! I will try webm and compare and will report back!

rock on brother.

Good post, good job keep this job, I like post, upvote and resteem

cheers! always doing my bit.

Besides shooting myself. If my upload speed is around .72 to 1.2 mbs. are there things I can tweak to make streaming better. All I am trying to stream is old SNES games . droping the rescale output and droping bitrate in obs would help right? It is hard to test because I do not know what other people are actually seeing because if I try to watch myself of course it will drop my speed more. AWESOME video by the way!

thanks man. yeah that upload speed is ROUGH. you will be struggling, you really need like 2 - 4 mbs so you have room to 'breath' -- that is other things that might be happening on the network -- best thing to do is download your streamed video after you have finished streaming to see what it looks like.

That is an awesome idea. Did not know it would record what people was watching not the raw stuff. So you think dropping the bit rate and out going Rez would help. When I down load my last steam and see it acting crazy that is. I think you got me going in the right direction I thank you for your support and speedy reply

you are welcome. live streaming is demanding. if other things are on your network then that can effect the stream, keep an eye on your cpu, are you in the green or the yellow on obs? what equipment are you using? what's your connection like, have you tried pingtest.net as well to see what your 'latency' is like? always reboot your internet connection before streaming, be connected by ethernet instead of wifi. upgrade your router, check the firmware.. . lots of things you can do! :)
