What the powers that be are doing by isolating each of us in one of many different ways is part of the classic divide and conquer strategy. You are onto something solid there - community, where we share ourselves fully with friends and family, and neighbors allows us to potentially inspire others and when we pass on, we live on in the hearts that we have made an impact on - and through this mechanic, we do indeed achieve an immortality that is better than immortality itself.
