Actual footage of irresistibly cute sloth crawling through Costa Rican jungle
Hi there my Steemit friends and followers!
Let me brighten up your Monday with what is probably the cutest wildlife video I have ever taken. I have already showed you some sloth photos that I took during our trip to Costa Rica last year but now, when I am more familiar with D-Live, I can finally share the footage with you :)
So who is the little guy you are going to see in the video? It is the brown-throated sloth, one of the symbols of Costa Rica. The sloth usually only comes down from a tree once a week to defecate, so yeah, this guy was probably just about to do his business when I was taking the video (I am sorry buddy but I just could not let you go without taking the video and a few shots :)).
Now if you wonder what the black-orange patch on his back is, let me tell you what I was told by the guides in local national parks. It is a color marking that forms in adult males of this sloth species but the exact purpose of it remains unknown.
Here is a few more fun facts about sloths I learnt in Costa Rica:
- Sloths are very slow and clumsy on land but they are excellent swimmers.
- They spend most of the day sleeping.
- They can turn their head almost 360 degrees.
- They are related to anteaters and armadillos.
- They may remain hanging from tree even after death.
As you can see, the slowness of the sloth´s movement is incredible and while it might add to the overall cuteness of this extraordinary creature, it is also what makes it so vulnerable, especially on the ground where the sloth has literally no chance to avoid an approaching car.
Therefore, it is always the driver who decides whether these defenseless furry guys make it safely to the other side of the road or not. So please drive responsibly and watch out for them (and for other animals too of course) when driving in Costa Rica ;)
Hopefully, your learnt something new about sloths in the post and fell in love with these awkward smiling furry bundles :)
Have a nice day and take it easy like our little Costa Rican friend! :)

One of my favorite posts. I love these. I have a friend we call Sloth but he is not this cute. Great video.
Thanks Beth :) Sloth are amazing creatures. Say hi to your Sloth friend :D
Very cool video. I absolutely love sloths!!!
Great work @phortun!
Thanks! I love them too :)
:-D
Incredible creatures! :) Would love to meet a sloth some day! :)..I do not like that you can hear cars driving by! :(
I am sure you would love them :) They are very special. But yeah, good point with the cars - the sloths often live on trees right next to busy roads... that is also why I mentioned the thing with responsible driving.
Irresistibly cute indeed @phortun. What a wonderful thing to witness. Thank you for taking and sharing the video. 😁
My pleasure Gillian :)

Že jo? :D A to počkej až je někdy uvidíš naživo ve volné přírodě :) Nezapomenutelný zážitek ;)
