The Main Homestead Water Tank

This 1500 gallon water tank feeds two houses. It collects rain water from the roofs of a wood shed and outdoor kitchen that flows through gutters and into the tank. We get well over 100 gallons for every inch of rain that comes down. The spring and fall rains help produce the most water for the tank and right now we are going through a small drought.

The question I had the other day was from a viewer that wanted to know how our kitchen pump worked. He wanted to know how deep the tank was in the ground below the house. Well, we don't have a tank below the house. This kitchen pump simply brings the water up from the pipe that is hooked up to the tank.

In this video, I show you the tank, the pipe coming out of it that goes into the ground and where the pipe comes into the house. We have two such tanks on our homestead of the same capacity in addition to smaller tanks. Our total water storage capacity is now over 5000 gallons on the homestead.

I am amazed at how you are able to run your household on free water. I am familiar with the concept of natural water wells and pumps since my parents grew up in a rural area, but I had not seen a rain water supply. You must have been on this journey for a long time now to have so many ways to live off the grid. What a blessing.

That is really neat! What temperature does the water come out as?

It just depends. Because it goes underground first, it can be kinda cool. Plus water is the best thermal mass so it changes temp slowly.

Awesome system for off grid! You are living the reality many wish for!

great set up on the water tank. keep the homestead going!

Looking forward to a review on the fly trap! Last Sukkot there was an abundance of fly's and the more ways to get rid of them the better!

That is fantastic. I have thought about setting up a similar system here but I have well water and figure it is just easier to put a hand pump on my well for emergencies and solar power for regular use. Really great system though for someone that does not already have a well dug or even for extra water supply for parts of the property that are to much trouble to try and run hoses and pipes to.

Your YouTube video inspired me to come here to steemit. I hope to keep seeing your content.
