Whisky exhibition 威士忌特展
The other month I discovered a whisky promotion event at my local city, it was held by Balvenie from Scotland. With my hubby being a whisky buff, we went along to see what they were up to.
They had a mock up distillery in the middle of town, and pockets of grains in the front to give a Scottish distillery feel. I have to say I was quite impressed with the setup .
The theme of the exhibition was The Craftmanship's Journey, and they told the journey of 5 craftmen. The first was about a guy and his classic car, his care and attention to restore it. The technique required during restoration is that you must have 90 degrees angle before you can achieve the perfect form.
Next was a restorative artist who specialises in restoring the ancient paintings inside the many centuries old temples in Taiwan. Perfecting this skill can take things back to its original form - ground zero. (These numbers will mean something later on)
I don't have photos of the next two exhibits but you can see them in the video. One was from a master leather maker who specialises in making baseball gloves. Making each pair of gloves entails 15 processes, so the 15 processes plus 1 master makes the perfect creation. The other is a mechanic who restores and makes his own motorbike. The number here is 99, meaning nothing is perfect, and the minor imperfection is what makes things special. This is the pack of leaflet for the exhibition.
The last exhibit is about the 5 Balvenie Craftsmen. The Farmers, the Malt Men, the Coppersmiths, the Coopers and the Malt Master. Together they create the the final product, many which were on display during the exhibition.
As we were led through the tour of these five journeys, we were given various components. This was to make a leather keyring, and takes me to those numbers I mentioned earlier on.
At the end of tour, there was a bank of hot stamps, each with a different number from the craftmen's journey. You can choose which one you want to emboss on your keyring.
I choose 99 and hubby choose 5, here they are.
And finally, we were able to try, on the house of course, and glass of whisky to round off an interesting and enjoyable afternoon. Don't forget to check out my video for a full tour of the exhibition!
My video is at DLive
Lovely exhibit! I like your attention to details. Those are interesting to see indeed.
I hope you were able to enjoy the whisky :D
This is required in restoring the car? I wonder why that is.
I like the meaning behind 99. It is true. There is no such thing as perfect. Things can be perfect in our way.
Thanks , glad you liked it. Not sure about the 90 degrees thing to be honest, maybe its something to do with the precision of the tools...
Not a tool guy myself but that sounds possible. Also, it's easier to see things that way I guess.
I don't enjoy Scottish whisky as much as I enjoy bourbon, but that tour looks like a lot of fun!
To me they're all the same as I don't actually drink whisky 😀
威士忌 好好飲。看短片好像很好玩呢
從這個角度介紹威士也不錯,因為它不竟是手工藝品,而不是大量生產
是的,可惜香港很少這類型的活動,就算有也是私人辦的😣😣

This is awesome, must be an interesting experience! Love this kind of craftsmanship's journey - you get to do something instead of only watching, which is more engaging.
I really like the concept, it is promotion, but not in the hard sell sense, I think it was quite successful to be honest
Never had you down as the whisky type - then noticed the 'hubby ref'!
That looks like a particularly impressive exhibition - through the stages! Great stuff.
I think I might actually have a rare bottle of the Balvenie held on the Whisky exchange - I bought a couple of bottles of I can't remember what now 10 yrs ago as an investment.
That aside, I do like a good whisky!
must hook you up with hubby one day!
A nice wee exhibition. Balvenie is a great Scottish single malt whisky. I love single malt whisky, though I don't drink very much - just a little at a time.
I don't drink it either, but my hubby also prefers single malt, he's got quite a few bottle at home
