ULog #1- Is Hip Hop Music criminal?
This is my first Ulog, but it's a salty juicy topic ;)
SO... Apollo ( my 11 year old beat boxing, hip hop loving son) was in music class today... they were watching something on youtube for their assignment and an ad popped up for vevo of some rapper, someone said "future Apollo" and his response was " ye makin milli's" trying to ignore the fact that they were trying to poke fun at his taste and someone else response was " and getting arrested" ---- HE BLEWWWW UPPPP
Now, if you don't know him, it takes ALOT to actually make him blow up.. but he LOST his shit ( and his music teacher didn't even say anything she let him so kudos to her lmao) to summarize what he told me he responded with :
"THAT'S STEREOTYPING AND IGNORANT! THERE ARE TONS OF RAPPERS WHO HAVE NEVER BEEN ARRESTED, THAT ACTUALLY DO NOT COMMIT CRIMES AND THERES TONS OF SUB GENRES THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH CRIME WHAT SO EVER!"
First of All I am proud. Really Really Proud he stood up for himself and for the Hip Hop Culture. My ulog tonight opens up the room for discussion. Let me hear your initial thoughts on Hip Hop, Do you associate it with crime? If so, why exactly do you?

Really great video Dez!! I'm so proud of Apollo for standing up for himself. He did a good job!! Actually, good job to both of you! AND.....good question. I'm certainly not the person to ask about Hip Hop but I'm learning and I'll be interested to see what others think. Steem on!!

But I'm around you around it...LOL!!!! I don't see why it's associated STILL with crime and drugs. The only thing I have is because years ago several high profile rappers acted poorly, to say the least. What I'm exposed to is far from that..... the last event I went to one of the young artists was rapping about politics and did an amazing job!
I guess you woukd be bias in a sense. But you see the mainstrram stuff here and thre as well (sexualization etc) so you know the proper side of it :)
Well done Apollo for standing your ground. Interesting points you raise Dezzi in regards to the possible reasons for continued bias against hip hop and rap music. Did the teacher respond to any of this?
No the teacher is laid back so she just let him vent and then went ahead with the assignment

As far as hip hop - I think anytime that a grand generalization is put on a community - it's prejudiced and unfair. I think people need to be evaluated as individuals! :)
It was his good friend so there was no fear of being able to speak his mind lol
I think that the teacher allowed him to express himself and had to re-direct the class back to her assignment.
