The Sapien ICO is a Steemit alternative for decentralized news content

I interview their CEO, Ankit Bhatia, about this new project, their upcoming ICO, and more.

What do you think?

My video is at DLive

Heard everything. Why this new project have to be with ethereum?
Good to see how it will be implemented.

We actually discuss that issue in the interview!

DOA because the project is centralized and basically waiting for a platform that it can use that can handle the number of transactions that are needed to deliver the product they're trying to bring to market in a decentralized format.

He's aware that Ethereum can't scale right now and is hoping that they'll figure it out (which involves off chain scaling solutions) that are still years away (as mentioned by Vitalik).

The solution of course is staring him right in the face. Steem is already a living breathing platform that can handle everything they're trying to do.

This is a perfect example of where they should be using an SMT rather than doing a coin ICO on Ethereum. Lots of good ideas, but poor execution.

If they didn't like the Steem blockchain, they should be planning to launch on EOS and use them as they're the only other platform that will be handle that kind of throughput.

The fact that the CEO didn't even mention EOS as an option says a lot to me about the level of understanding about what's needed to deliver the vision.

You pretty much summed up what I was going to say. The fact that he mentioned that the Steem blockchain is "closed" compared to Ethereum is a symptom that he either doesn't know what he is talking about or is being disingenuous.

That should say a lot then.
This is essentially two entities (one with large presence: Vice / one dreaming of it: Sapien) that chose to NOT utilize SMTs. Which.. are currently DNEs.

That is worrysome. That two entities chose the harder route rather that work with steemit Inc.
Maybe something will come out soon as to why Vice chose to not go with SMTs are they were pretty adamant that it was the right path.

That's another thing.. if Steemit is so superior as a blockchain, why is it only known here?
Why aren't others utilizing it and raving about it just as much as the cheer squad here raves about it...

Vice did choose the Steem blockchain, they just forked it to go off on their own with it and as I stated above, it appears to be pure ignorance on the part of the Sapien team that they're not doing the same as Vice or choosing EOS as their platform. Both platforms are capable of delivering their vision, but instead they've decided to remain centralized and wait for some other platform.... not a good sign to me.

Good question, unfortunately I have no idea why people choose to remain ignorant, you'll have to ask them. I go off of facts though, and the facts are pretty clear that as a blockchain Steem blows most everything out of the water right now.

Transaction time:

Capacity:

Actual Use:

and these facts are just a warmup, it also already has tons of working projects that have been built on it like Dtube, Dlive, Dsound, Busy, chainBB, etc... (https://steemprojects.com/) I'd challenge you to find me any other blockchain that has this much actual use and live projects actively built and running on it.

Well then that's my point. I've seen these graphics around many times. Where though... IN HERE ONLY. They don't impress anyone out there. Or no one out there takes them seriously. See, you stated, "they're ignorant, you'll have to ask them" but no... it would seem you are ignorant to the reality of things. As.... those numbers and graphics SHOULD be speaking volumes across the blockchain communities... but they are not.

Which is why I align more with the collective.. that I DO NOT see this as a superior blockchain. Well, actually, the blockchain does have a lead on others with use case and proven performance over an extended period but the tech isn't everything. Clearly there are other factors keeping teams away.

That other factor might be the steemit team themselves. Vice actions would hint towards that seen as they chose the harder route. The relationship appeared to be soured by misunderstanding as them choosing to FORK the steem blockchain has a slight hint of "watch us play you at your own game". So I do wonder what lead to the split. When in the beginning the two were so chummy.

SAPIEN not choosing steem blockchain is simple. They see it as a corrupt existence and would not want anything to do with it with their version of "Rewarding User". I see their angle completely and don't fault them on that. It in fact strengthens my view of them as it demonstrates that they DO have a real desire to cater to the user. While there are many faults with their version, and clear limitations going forward, it's at least good to know that an alternative with admirable ambitions is in the works.

Because let's not kid ourselves. If you are a man of FACTS.
Then you can't deny that this steemit is very broken.
It's on it's last bandage actually. Specially with new players on the horizon.
It best strap up, stand tall and get in that fight for Social Supremacy.

The people exist essentially as a wave of refugees looking for a new Social Home.
It really doesn't take much in terms of promise to capture an audiece in this space.
The delivery of that promise is obviously important but steadily development is enough.

Steemit HAS NOT delivered on filling that void. Last years announcements mean nothing now. They need to become a reality or it will be a long road caching up to a new player that goes viral.

And on the projects, I dismiss ALL.

Sorry but I do not consider half assed attempts to be a positive.
I actually see it as a negative, because all they do is add frustration to the user.
NONE of them are FULLY WORKING or working at optimum level.
Utopian.io is actually the only project which has a solid existence and future.

This is the delusion that people in here exist under... that just the fact that there are layers for the user they are somehow ahead of the rest. NO ! We do not live in a world of "working on it" any more... It needs to WORK ALWAYS or don't bring that broken shit to the table.

While there are many, IN HERE who say, I'm OK with it having flaws, I know they're working on it. Well the majority out there are not as accepting or tolerable. This is what people ALWAYS need to realize. The user SOLD and in for the long run will accept anything. They are NOT who you need to target. It's the ones out there NOT SEEING what you see that are the real target.

Take DTube for instance. Wants to be "The YouTube Killer". It's laughable. Liken to a child punching his daddy in the chins and saying "I'm going to dethrone you".

The simplest of things like EMBEDDED VIDEO.... NON EXISTENT! = FAIL!
a USER in here.. in the closed system.. has to go to another website, re log in just to activate a video which is part of THIS SYSTEM. All the other so called "extras" are simply elements fragmented across the place which in turn actually ASSIST those looking to SCAM people of their money, because they give opportunity for phishing attacks.

I know that ONE DAY, it will all be integrated into the one system but again that was the point. When this all takes so long to achieve, others step in and take over. Steemit is notorious for slow progress and even NO PROGRESS for set periods. No wonder a SAPIEN comes in and realizes the great opportunity that exists due to the shortfalls of others.

POWER TO THE USER.
Steemit is on borrowed time if they continue to sit on their hands.

So much vitriol from you!

NO ! We do not live in a world of "working on it" any more... It needs to WORK ALWAYS or don't bring that broken shit to the table.

Right... you just lost all credibility. Bitcoin itself is still a work in progress and will be for years to come and it's the flagship of cryptos.

I hate to break it to you but this whole space is in it's infancy and it's going to take years for the technology and use cases to fully mature. Try to enjoy the ride and loosen up a bit.

In the end, we all win.

Lines entries like "I hate to break it to you..." actually say more about you and how you probably took my opinion way too personal.

Break it to me..... and LOVE IT.

I'm also enjoying many rides and am more loose than a hooker on a Sunday morning...
But again... your concern for me there, shows that you are bothered and wish to belittle me or at least walk away feeling like "I told him!"....... so yeah.....

you told me!

Nah, not bothered at all, just always enjoy a good conversation, I wish you the best. you just came off in your comments as having so much bitterness and negative energy that I was hoping to lighten the mood a little.

Got a laugh out of the hooker comment though. Damn, you are loose, I stand corrected.

Like I said, in the end we all win.

Well same to you, I actually do consider you as value here as I have seen you add lengthy and well constructed input to many serious conversations regarding the state of steemit.

We certainly do present views from different perspectives so naturally the passion demonstrates. I agree that user is the winner in all this.. not so much now as I consider there to be no sustainable option outside of the mainstream players but it's only a matter of time before there are more than needed.

Take care!

this sounds great but I'm always wary of a steemit competitor. I would rather see us hit a critical mass of members to assure that we are resistant to competitors. Diluting the market for members is scary. Maybe it is time for the steemit community to start accepting all types of content as "quality" instead of being beholden to long form content.

I tend to think competition, in this space, is good

lol because you're bumbed about your earnings here.

You started off good because Community Liaison leached onto you thinking you would bring large viewership. Your closed political view didn't hit though. They abandoned you quickly.

The game is the game.

I think competition is good. We should welcome it. They are promising better user experience which is definitely going to be a key. Steemit has to improve their user experience. I remember the entry being complicated! Ankit has a point. Coinbase is a super easy platform and that's the reason they are number 1 when it comes to crypto exchanges. So let's wait and watch. These are interesting times for media.

Steemit should create a separate Medium clone under it's blockchain and the main Steemit website should be kept as it is as your Steem wallet personal content list, since the blockchain needs some place to congregate all the content.

Huh, that is an interesting idea

It will be a revolution for independent journalism

Thanks @davidpakman! You always bring out very very relevant stuff here. This is going to get quite exciting....Cant wait...

Always funny, 10 views at the moment but 50 upvotes ...

Well, the likes from Dtube can be transferred over too...

Good point, but was there a link for people to go to Dtube also ?

Yes. I watched the Dtube interview> it's amazing.
