Hong Kong Snapshot (91) – Bridge Street and the CCC, where Sun Yat-sen became a Christian 香港隨拍 (91) – 必列者士街與公理堂，孫中山受洗的地方

We introduced the school life of Sun Yat-sen, founding father of modern China, in the last two chapters of HK Snapshot. Within the few years of his studies. Sun always stayed at the Bridge Street. In Bridge Street, Sun became a Christian.

在上兩次的香港隨拍，介紹了孫中山先生在香港的讀書生涯，而在這幾年期間，他除了在書院學習，逗留得最多的地方，應該就是上環的必列者士街了，而在這條街，孫中山正式成為了基督徒。

It was 1883, Sun, together with Lu Haodong, was baptized in the Church of Christ in China - China Congregational Church (CCC). In the later 3 years, he lived in the Church.

那一年是1883年，孫中山先生與一同逃難來港的陸皓東，一同在必列者士街的公理堂受洗，正式成為基督徒，在之後的3年，他更是寄宿在公理堂的宿舍。

Christianity had a great influence to Sun. Because of Christianity, Sun learnt the power of religion. He later used the religion power of the Three Principles of the People to unite the revolutionary leaders and built the new China. Soong Ching-ling, wife of Sun, believed that the equality and fraternity were used as a weapon during the revolution of Sun. However, many people question if Sun was still a Christian when he was old. But it is not our topic today so we don’t mention it here.

基督教對孫中山的影響很深，因為基督教，他認識到信仰的力量，後來，他就以三民主義的信仰團結革命義士，成功推翻滿清，他的妻子宋慶齡亦認為，基督教中所提倡的平等與博愛，亦成為了孫中山在革命時所使用的武器。不過，很多人認為孫中山在晚年卻不再信奉基督教，但這就不在我們討論之列了。

The CCC was later moved to a new place and public market was built on the address in 1953. In 2011, the Market was listed as HK Grade III Historical Building. Now, the Market is preserved as the Hong Kong News-Expo which provide activities and speeches of HK press media education.

孫中山生活了3年的公理堂在後來搬遷，原址在1953年建成了街市，並於2011年被納入三級歷史建築，後來，建築被活化成香港新聞博覽館，提供傳媒教育活動及講座等。

Last year, I visited the Bridge Street and the Hong Kong News-Expo was still not built. And now, the construction is finished and it will open in the late 2018. So, will the new building keep the structure of the old buildings? Let’s see.

上一年，我曾到訪必列者士街，當時的新聞博覽館尚未建成，這天再去，博覽館已建成了，不過它在2018年底才會啓用，到底這新聞博覽館會保留了以前街市的建築部份？讓我們拭目以待。
