EBay has denied rumors that they will start accepting cryptocurrency as a payment method.
Speculation has increased since the e-commerce giant issued an ad at the Consensus conference in New York City. One of the billboards said:
"Virtual currency. That happened on eBay. "
It has been suggested that this week's crypto price surge, which occurred without explanation, was associated with hopes that eBay was preparing to embrace crypto.
Given how online auction sites call themselves "the largest market in the world," such a move would be a major milestone in the industry's efforts to achieve major adoption, Bloomberg reported. But responding to the rumor directly, an eBay spokesman said:
"Cryptocurrency is not accepted as a form of payment on the eBay platform, nor is it part of our payment strategy."
