World Series: Justin Verlander trade leaves Yankees to wonder

The difference between the New York Yankees right  now and the Houston Astros could be summed up in two words: Justin Verlander.

At the trade deadline in 2017, the Astros made the mega-deal to acquire Verlnder for a trio of prospects.  Since coming to Houston, he has been everything the team wanted him to be.

The Yankees saw their fortunes end in the ALCS to these same Astors.  What separated the Bronx Bombers is they lack the starting pitching to compete with Houston.

The irony is the Yankees were in the Verlander sweepstakes but did not pull the trigger.  Houston's gain sums up the Yankees decade long streak of no championships.
