Government officials, competitors and even a space traveler praised the United States triumph in the ladies' World Cup on Sunday, and the civic chairman of New York reported a ticker tape march for the football champions.
A punishment by Megan Rapinoe and a strike by Rose Lavelle took the US ladies to a 2-0 triumph over the Netherlands in the last in Lyon, their second successive success in the competition and a record-setting fourth by and large.
"I want to congratulate the women´s soccer team on winning the World Cup. That´s an incredible achievement," US President Donald Trump told reporters in New Jersey. "It is a great honor to have them capture it for the United States."
