Android Camera App Bug Lets Apps Record Video Without Permission

More Android Bugs. This is becoming the new normal.

The Camera apps from Google and Samsung had a security flaw that allowed any app to use the camera and take photos without your permission.

> "A new vulnerability has been found in the Camera apps for millions, if not hundreds of millions, of Android devices that could allow other apps to record video, take pictures, and extract GPS data from media without having the required permissions."

The problem was fixed in July 2019 but it's impossible to know how many were affected before the update. I don't get these companies.

Google and Samsung are giants. Don't they have beta testers?

> "This vulnerability, known as CVE-2019-2234, is known to affect the Google Camera and Samsung Camera apps if they have not been updated since before July 2019."

The malicious apps could do a lot more than what users gave them permissions to. This is an outrage. These companies should be more careful before launching their programs. But since all they want is money, they don't care about us or our security.

> "A malicious app running on an Android smartphone that can read the SD card, not only has access to past photos and videos, but with this new attack methodology, can be directed to initiate (take) new photos and videos at will. And it doesn’t stop there. Since GPS metadata is usually embedded into the photos, the attacker can take advantage of this fact to also locate the user by taking a photo or video and parsing the proper EXIF data."

The best way to be protected in the computer world is to use an Operating System than almost no one uses. Right now, the safe choice for phones is Windows Phone. Since it's almost dead, no one will try to hack you.
