Finding an Elusive Star Behind a Supernova | NASA
This is the image of a doomed progenitor star captured by Hubble Space Telescope in 2007. It is assumed that the supergiant star survived within a bunch of young stars located in 65 million light-years from Earth in the spiral galaxy NGC 3938. It exploded and converted into supernova in 2017. The size of this massive star may have been similar to the size of 50 Suns. Owing to the lack of hydrogen and helium, the supergiant star exploded and caused a massive supernova.
