Spotify: Albums are alive and kicking in the streaming age - BBC News

I love streaming apps like Spotify and Apple Music. However, I disagree that album is very much alive. Yes, albums in these streaming platforms are doing well but sales dropped drastically. Two decades ago, if an artist released a single, then a new album is expected to come out. Now, artists will try out. They will release a single, if it will become a hit, they will release an album. If it failed, a new album will be on hold or will not materialize. It's even rare now that an album will sell 5-10 million in a calendar year, unless you're Adele. Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran may be hanging behind and will likely 5 million albums in a year. But 10 million is just a dream.
