Free agent Gerrit Cole thanks Astros, fans for support

Gerritt Cole saw his contract with the Houston Astros end with the completion of Game 7 last night.  He had an awkward exchange with a team official after the game stating that he wasn't employed by the team anymore.

Today was a different story with Cole writing a heartfelt message to the Astro fans.

Cole is expected to reap an enormous contract as the top pitching free agent on the market this year.  There is the possibility that Stephen Strasburg will opt out of his deal with the Nationals.

Rumors are that Cole wants a $300 million contract.  This would be enormous for a starting pitcher.
