Can Berlin's 'Smart City' Showcase Data Privacy? - CityLab
This article discusses the social issues that could arise from the development of tech-driven developments.
It makes reference to several proposed tech-driven developments that were abandoned due to objections from local communities. One of the reasons or rather the main reason for the objections is that the said developments alienated the local communities rather than benefited them.
France has put in place a law known as PACTE law, which would ensure that such issues don't arise if such developments were to take place in France.
Under the PACTE law companies are required to take into account the social and environment stakes of the companies activities and it considers such considerations to be in the interest of the companies.
If Germany has such a law in place, taking care of the interest of the local community would no longer be a moral obligation but a legal one for Siemens to follow.
