How Walk Hard revived the lost art of the spoof / The Dissolve
This post combines two things that were criminally underrated.
First off, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story is the most brilliant satirical spoof of the last 20 years. I guess that can seem like it's not saying much since there are so many terrible spoofs (Date Movie for example) from that time period. Perhaps people expected something similar. But this was brilliant in the vein of spoofs like Airplane! and Blazing Saddles.
Secondly, I really miss the Dissolve website. This was movie criticism that reminded me more of film survey classes in college. They were very academic in their approach, which I guess naturally failed to win over a large audience. Check out the rest of the site while it's still online. It's a film lovers' paradise.
