My choice for a movie tonight bears a lot of uncanny similarities to last night's movie Groundhog Day:

  • They both take place in the Rust Belt (Buffalo and Pittsburgh/Punxsutawney)
  • They both are largely not filmed where they take place
  • Both have the main character given godlike powers
  • Both lead actors started off on a network sketch comedy show
  • Both have the main character given godlike powers
  • Both main characters step in a deep puddle of water early in the film (and both later either walk on water or learn to step over the puddle)
  • Both lead characters are local television news personalities who are unsatisfied with having to report on folksy local people and would rather get a promotion.

Both movies present a lot of spiritual and philosophical questions about the nature of the lust for and abuse of power, and the redemption when one becomes selfless. Both films are currently streaming on Netflix.

What can we learn from the film Bruce Almighty?

I have seen the movie, and that was an interesting read. Like i never realized there are just something as self-control etc to learn from it. All i knew then was how i was entertained. 😂

The director is interesting to me. He was a in a bike wreck and suffered a bad concussion. He then quit Hollywood, moved into a trailer park, gave away most of his money and opened a homeless shelter. Now he teaches film at a university.
