TRASH REJECTED!! A $200+ Computerized Sewing Machine Left For Dead Fixed In 5 Minutes!

in #diy6 years ago (edited)

This limited edition computerized sewing machine was tossed out in the recycling because the previous "owner" thought it didn't work.

Not in my house!!

  • Using a plug I had at home, it didn't power on. Time to think...
  • The label said 25-year parts warranty, so I felt it must be an electrical glitch.
  • If it wasn't a blown fuse, maybe a wire got loose?
  • I looked at the plug port and found the obvious problem...
  • Using only a screwdriver, super glue, and ironically a sewing needle, I fixed it from start to finish in 5 minutes.
  • While it runs perfectly, a small storage bin was separated from it on the curb, so I'll have to sell it for a discount.

What was the problem?

One of the prongs was pushed in and unable to connect to the plug for power. More than enough reason to throw it out, right?

It took no time to open up the side to confirm, push the pin back out, and apply super glue to reinforce. Anyone could've identified and handled this with ease if they used some critical thinking.

For good measure, I also used a sewing needle to carefully add some glue to the base of the other side of the prong.

I gave myself a high five and put the machine back in the case I found it with. On to the next one...

Most of the recycling finds I come across are in excellent working condition, but some may have a minor glitch which can most often be repaired. If not, I sell the item in parts and make just as much, if not more.

Here's an example of 10 things I recently found for free that I easily sold for $1,068 revenue.

Wow, that's another great find...

I wonder if children were taught some basic repair skills at school there would be less of this?

Thanks! I'd imagine that teaching the philosophy of valuing possessions and not disposing at first chance would cover that base, as they'd be interested in problem solving versus seeking a replacement.

Excellent troubleshooting there, :D

Love them quick fixes.

A machine I have never seen before
Really wonderful and very helpful
