What is wrong with this picture?

in #diy5 years ago

I texted this picture to a friend and asked "what is wrong with this picture?" He responded "no beer?" Moments earlier I had been thinking about the contents of the beer fridge, but that is not what I meant.

Look closely at the bottom row of partial tiles.

I had already cleaned up the tools and the tile saw when I noticed that two of the pieces didn't have the gray edge detail on them. They are just pure white.

The color is pretty subtle. You might not notice it if you are looking at just one tile, but the combined effect is obvious. Having two bright white tiles in the middle of the wall like giant buck teeth was not going to fly.

Thankfully, I caught it in time. The mortar was still a little soft and I was able to pry the offending tiles out without disturbing their neighbors.

There were plenty leftover tiles in the last box and a little leftover mortar, so it was a painless fix. If it had set up fully it would have been very hard to get the tile loose without damaging the waterproofing membrane. Close call!

Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale seemed like a natural choice for this occasion.

Man, that black grout is a mess. I still have black stains under my fingernails three days after grouting the floor and shower alcoves. The wall grout is going to be Delorian Gray which should be about the same color as the shadow line in the ungrouted wall.

Finishing the tile is a major milestone in the project. Better mark the occasion with a beer.

Celebration is an ale made to celebrate the hop harvest each year.

The start of Celebration season is a festive event. We can’t start brewing until the first fresh hops have arrived, but once they have the season is officially under way! First brewed in 1981, Celebration Ale is one of the earliest examples of an American-style IPA and one of the few hop-forward holiday beers. Famous for its intense citrus and pine aromas, Celebration is bold and intense, featuring Cascade, Centennial and Chinook hops—honoring everything we have at Sierra Nevada.

At 6.8% ABV and 65 IBU, I would call this a properly balanced IPA. It has a big malty flavor that keeps up with Sierra Nevada's signature hop artistry.

Looks way better with some beer.

and the results of your work will be as well better

just believe and smile

It was way better after celebrating with a beer, at least it felt better. We repeated the celebration last night after we tested the floor heater and it worked.

Your tile job looks good we just finished our show 96 sq feet with white subway tile. We lended up going with black grout which turned out cool.

Thanks. This is about the same size. Did you do the work yourself?

I guess beer makes everything better! lol

Love that you added a bar to the shower stall... for safety purposes and all that

I've never seen a shower with a tap coming out of the wall. Maybe I can be a trendsetter.

I did get the corny pun, btw. Too bad my father in law isn't on Steem. He loves puns.

lol- yeah.. it was pretty bad.
But it was the first thing I thought of when I saw it!

We can call it @professorbromide's Safety Bar For Your Shower Needs

I think of a shower beer, which is not something I normally do at home. It is that perfect beer that you have in the outdoor shower after your first day at the beach during a vacation. Heaven.

Really nice beer holder in the shower Dude! A lot of people would not have noticed the buck teeth, but if they did, they would "certainly" bother you after a while (I would probably lose sleep over them).

I want to tile my outdoor bathroom, but I am scared. I have never tiled anything. The subway tiles would look fantastic!

Tile is pretty easy to do. This is the first job I've done by myself and it went smoothly. We even tested the under floor heater last night and it passed.

The rules for tiling are simple: 1) The subfloor has to be rock solid, flat, and pitched correctly, 2) if you need waterproofing, add a separate waterproofing membrane under the tile, 3) make sure your tiles are supported completely with mortar and are even with their neighbors, 4) clean up your mortar drips right away, 5) try to lay in the right amount of grout so that you don't have to wash out a whole bunch of it, 6) clean the ground off the centers of the tiles right away.

Looks great! A little perfectionism never hurts! Every time you looked at it you would have noticed those tiles! Haha! Nice job @professorbromide!

That is what my daughter said. It would have been a small irritation every time you looked at that wall.
