DIY Smokehouse Build - Part 3
The smokehouse project is coming along nicely. In this update I secure the smokehouse to the ground and foundation and glue up the fire box. I also get to put it through it’s first test fire!
Next is to find or make stainless steel racks and install a thermometer. Also, I am thinking of building a wooden door on the fire box with a solar powered fan (maybe) to help regulate airflow and fan the fire if needed.
If you have any good cold smoke recipes I’d love to hear them below!
See you on the next post,

I was wondering how you were going to hold it down. Looks solid now.
Cool music.
Yeah, I didn't want anything too permanent in case we move later or want to relocate it. The rebar is much sturdier than it probably looks. We had some micro-burst storms come by since it's been up there and it's sustained about 45 mph winds fine. Oh yeah... and my two boys. ;)
I used ovens racks in my smoke house. They get covered in black soot so they don't need to be stainless.
Smart!!! That's what I've been "racking" my brain over lately. I may be going down the custom route since I built my smokehouse freestyle and didn't think to look for racks first. Either way, I'll be sure to share what I come up with.
Looks great! This is another project I would like to do on our property but I'm looking into ways to reduce the tunnel. Maybe a rocket heater set up?
It depends on if you want to build a cold smoker or a cooker smoker...
Hit me up on the Homesteaders Online chat and I can share more of what I've learned. There's a commercial option for a product that may work well for you...
I'll need to go back and find part one and two. I would love to have a smoke house. I tried some of @sholamacres smoked summer sausage and I'm hooked its so good.

From what I have read, and since mine is designed as a cold smoker, it's best used in cold weather. I have a pretty good book on order that will be my guide. :)
