DIY Bird Feeder - Plastic Up-cycle ProjectsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #diy5 years ago

Winter is here, and the food for our birds is at a low and we all need to do something to help them in their search for food.

With a little bit of imagination and a few things laying around my house I was able to build a bird feeder from items that would normally end up in land fill.

There is a few things that you will need to make this bird feeder but I think that it could be made from other items as well.

The first thing you will need is a plastic bottle, and with our country been infested with them you can pretty much find them in the bushes at the end of the garden.

A craft knife, scissors or a sharp knife, I decided to use a craft knife as it was already out from another project that I have been working on.

Some mill putty, this is not a must I just used it to hold the cord in place.

Two plastic spoons that we had in the cupboard, we don't buy plastic spoons and have no idea how they ended up in there, so I decided to put them to use.

And I used a cord that had in a picture hanging set from about 10 years ago.

First thing is first, you need to decided where you are going to want the spoons to sit, I decided that they needed to be near the bottom, so I measured and cut enough plastic to fit the spoons through.

do this 4 times and push the spoons in, these will be the pearch for the birds. then cut a hole in the side of the bottle, this will be for the birds to get the food.

make two holes in the lid and thread the string/wire through it, I placed mill putty in the top to stop it from breaking with the weight of the birds.

put the lid back on and let the putty dry. this is then ready to fill with seeds and hang out side for the birds to eat in these winter months.
