My Tiki Bar Project Has Commenced!

Hello Steemit tribe! With this bipolar weather we’ve been having in Southern California I decided to tackle some projects I’ve had in mind in my home.

Having so much unused space has often made me consider a)moving or b)putting it all into good use. Option b is cheaper.

My garage was one of those many spaces. Only one space in my garage is ever used and that even is a rarity. Being attracted to the kitsch and nostalgia of midcentury fascination with everything tiki I decided to convert my garage into a tiki bar!

I started off by painting the walls a flat mid mod turquoise. Very reminiscent of the Riviera Supper Club where my husband does his Jazz combo.

Being that luahala matting and even bamboo slats were pricey and would be something I would be saving for later I decided to use bamboo reed fencing as wainscoting and bamboo edging for the border.

On some of the walls and on the ceiling I used burlap.

I even found a bamboo expandable bamboo trellis to use as a wall Treatment for under $20!

Another good purchase was a bamboo bar I was able to haggle for!

I saved sooo much money on this piece!

And yes that’s artificial grass I had left over from a backyard project I used as a bar rug lol
For the rest of the floor I will be staining it and using a leopard rug in the lounging area.

I still need to fill in the bare spots with some more decor and I definitely will need more bamboo and rattan furniture to fill up the space for our get togethers!

I have bought some vintage lamps as well as a couple of color changing puffer fish taxidermied lamps to hang. Lighting is a big part of the feel of a Tiki room and mine will be red and green lights.

I still need to come up with a name for tiki bar and purchase more Decour and seating like I mentioned before I’m officially done.
I promise to share with you once I complete it! I hope to do so before June is over!
